Battle of Eger
The Battle of Eger took place in 1552 during the Ottoman-Habsburg wars. It was fought between the forces of the Ottoman Empire, led by Grand Vizier Ibrahim Pasha, and the defenders of the fortress of Eger, commanded by István Dobó. The battle was significant as it showcased the resilience of the Hungarian defenders against a much larger Ottoman army.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, the defenders successfully repelled the Ottoman siege for 39 days. The victory at Eger boosted morale among the Hungarian forces and became a symbol of resistance against Ottoman expansion in Europe. This battle is remembered as a key moment in the struggle for Hungarian independence.
