Siege of Eger
The Siege of Eger took place in 1552 during the Ottoman Empire's campaign to expand its territory in Hungary. The city of Eger, defended by a small garrison led by István Dobó, faced a large Ottoman army. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the defenders used strategic tactics and the city's fortifications to hold off the siege for several weeks.
The siege ended in failure for the Ottomans, who eventually retreated. The successful defense of Eger became a symbol of resistance against Ottoman expansion and is celebrated in Hungarian history. The event is also commemorated in literature, notably in the novel "The Stars of Eger" by Géza Gárdonyi.
