Battle of Edington
The Battle of Edington took place in May 878 between the forces of the Anglo-Saxon king Alfred the Great and the invading Vikings. This battle was a crucial moment in the struggle for control over England, as the Vikings had been raiding and settling in various parts of the country. Alfred's army, bolstered by local support, managed to defeat the Viking forces led by Guthrum.
Following the battle, the Vikings were forced to retreat and eventually agreed to a peace treaty. This led to the establishment of the Danelaw, a region in England under Viking control, while Alfred's victory helped solidify his reputation as a strong leader and defender of his kingdom.
