Battle of Belgrade
The Battle of Belgrade refers to two significant military confrontations that took place in the city of Belgrade, now the capital of Serbia. The first battle occurred in 1456, when the forces of the Ottoman Empire, led by Sultan Mehmed II, attempted to capture the city. The defenders, commanded by John Hunyadi, successfully repelled the attack, marking a crucial moment in the struggle against Ottoman expansion in Europe.
The second battle took place in 1717 during the Austro-Turkish War. The Habsburg Monarchy, under the command of Eugene of Savoy, besieged and captured Belgrade from the Ottomans. This victory allowed the Habsburgs to gain significant territory and influence in the region, further shaping the balance of power in southeastern Europe.
