Siege of Belgrade
The Siege of Belgrade took place in 1456, during the conflict between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary. The city of Belgrade, strategically located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, was a key stronghold. The siege was led by Sultan Mehmed II, who aimed to expand Ottoman control in Europe.
The defenders, under the command of John Hunyadi, successfully resisted the siege for several weeks. The battle culminated in a decisive victory for the Hungarians, which temporarily halted Ottoman advances into Central Europe. This event is often seen as a significant moment in the struggle between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire.
