Battle of Actium
The Battle of Actium was a naval confrontation that took place on September 2, 31 BCE, between the forces of Octavian and the combined fleets of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. This battle was a crucial moment in the power struggle that followed the assassination of Julius Caesar. Octavian's victory marked the end of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.
The battle occurred near the western coast of Greece, at the entrance of the Ambracian Gulf. Octavian's fleet, commanded by Agrippa, utilized superior tactics and naval technology to defeat Antony and Cleopatra. Following their defeat, Antony and Cleopatra fled to Egypt, where they ultimately met their demise, solidifying Octavian's control over Rome.
