Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is an autonomous region in the southern Philippines, established in 2019. It was created to provide greater self-governance to the Muslim population in the region, following decades of conflict and negotiations. The region includes five provinces: Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Basilan, along with several cities and municipalities.
BARMM aims to promote peace, development, and cultural identity for the Bangsamoro people. It has its own government structure, which includes a parliament and a chief minister, allowing for local decision-making and administration. The establishment of BARMM is seen as a significant step towards resolving historical grievances and fostering stability in the region.
