The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is a rebel group in the southern Philippines, primarily on the island of Mindanao. Founded in 1977, it aims to establish an independent Islamic state for the Moro people, who are the Muslim population in the region. The group emerged from earlier movements seeking autonomy and has been involved in various peace negotiations with the Philippine government. In 2014, the MILF signed a peace agreement that led to the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). This agreement aimed to provide greater political and economic autonomy for the Moro people, addressing long-standing issues of marginalization and conflict in the region.
