Baldwin II of Hainaut
Baldwin II of Hainaut was a medieval nobleman who became the last Latin Emperor of Constantinople from 1228 until 1261. He was born around 1217 and was the son of Baldwin I of Constantinople and Marie of Champagne. His reign was marked by the challenges of maintaining control over the dwindling Latin Empire amid rising threats from the Byzantine Empire and other regional powers.
During his rule, Baldwin II struggled with financial difficulties and sought assistance from Western Europe to bolster his position. His efforts ultimately failed, leading to the recapture of Constantinople by the Byzantines in 1261, which ended the Latin Empire's existence.
