Baldwin I of Constantinople
Baldwin I of Constantinople was the first Emperor of the Latin Empire, which was established after the Fourth Crusade in 1204. He was originally a count of Flanders and played a significant role in the Crusaders' conquest of Constantinople. Baldwin was crowned emperor on May 16, 1204, marking the beginning of Latin rule in the city.
His reign faced numerous challenges, including conflicts with rival factions and the need to secure the empire's territory. Baldwin I ruled until 1205, when he was captured by the Bulgarians during the Battle of Adrianople. His capture led to a decline in the Latin Empire's power and stability.
