Autosomal Disorders
Autosomal disorders are genetic conditions caused by mutations in genes located on the autosomes, which are the non-sex chromosomes. These disorders can be inherited from one or both parents and can affect both males and females equally. Common examples include cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anemia.
These disorders can be classified as dominant or recessive. In autosomal dominant disorders, only one copy of the mutated gene is needed for a person to be affected, while in autosomal recessive disorders, two copies are required. Early diagnosis and management can help improve the quality of life for affected individuals.
