Autonomous Bougainville Government
The Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) is the governing body of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, located in Papua New Guinea. Established in 2005, the ABG was created following a peace agreement that ended a decade-long conflict over independence and resource control. It has its own constitution and is responsible for local governance, including education, health, and infrastructure.
The ABG operates under the framework of the Bougainville Peace Agreement, which emphasizes self-governance and the right to hold a referendum on independence. The region has a unique cultural identity and is rich in natural resources, particularly copper and gold, which play a significant role in its economy and political discussions.
