Auckland Islands
The Auckland Islands are a remote archipelago located in the Southern Ocean, about 465 kilometers south of New Zealand's South Island. Comprising several islands, the largest is Auckland Island, which covers approximately 510 square kilometers. The islands are uninhabited, except for a small research station, and are known for their rugged terrain and diverse wildlife, including the endemic Auckland Island pig and various seabird species.
The Auckland Islands are part of the Subantarctic Islands and are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to their unique ecosystems. The islands experience a cool maritime climate, with frequent rainfall and strong winds. They are also significant for conservation efforts, as they provide habitat for many threatened species.
