Atmospheric Layers
The atmosphere is divided into several layers, each with distinct characteristics. The lowest layer is the troposphere, where weather occurs and where we live. Above it is the stratosphere, which contains the ozone layer that protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
Higher up, the mesosphere is where meteors burn up upon entering the atmosphere. Above this is the thermosphere, where temperatures can soar due to solar activity. Finally, the outermost layer is the exosphere, which gradually fades into space and contains very few particles.
