Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll (1629–1685), was a Scottish nobleman and a prominent figure during the turbulent times of the 17th century. He was a member of the Campbell clan and played a significant role in the political and military affairs of Scotland, particularly during the Covenanter movement, which sought to maintain the Presbyterian faith against royal interference. As a supporter of the Covenanters, Argyll was involved in various conflicts, including the English Civil War. He was known for his opposition to the monarchy and was a key player in the political landscape of Scotland. His life ended when he was executed for treason in 1685, marking a significant moment in Scottish history.
