Arch of Constantine
The Arch of Constantine is a triumphal arch located in Rome, Italy, built to commemorate the victory of Constantine the Great over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 312 AD. Standing 21 meters high and 25.9 meters wide, it features three archways and is adorned with reliefs and inscriptions celebrating Constantine's achievements.
Constructed from spolia, or reused materials, the arch incorporates sculptures and decorations from earlier monuments, including those dedicated to Trajan, Hadrian, and Marcus Aurelius. This blend of styles reflects the transition from the Roman Empire to the Constantinian era, symbolizing the shift in power and culture.
