Liberation of Bulgaria
The Liberation of Bulgaria refers to the period in the late 19th century when Bulgaria gained independence from the Ottoman Empire. This process was marked by a series of uprisings and wars, culminating in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. The conflict ended with the Treaty of San Stefano, which established a large Bulgarian state, although this was later revised by the Treaty of Berlin.
The liberation movement was fueled by nationalistic sentiments and the desire for self-determination among the Bulgarian people. Key figures in this struggle included leaders like Vasil Levski and Hristo Botev, who inspired many through their efforts to promote Bulgarian culture and independence.
