Antonio Francisco Lisboa
Antonio Francisco Lisboa, commonly known as Aleijadinho, was a prominent Brazilian sculptor and architect born in 1730 in Ouro Preto, Brazil. He is celebrated for his remarkable contributions to the Baroque style, particularly in the context of colonial Brazilian art. His works often feature intricate details and emotional expressions, showcasing his unique artistic vision.
Aleijadinho faced significant physical challenges, including a debilitating disease that affected his hands and feet. Despite these obstacles, he created many masterpieces, including the famous sculptures of the 12 Prophets at the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos in Congonhas. His legacy continues to influence artists and architects in Brazil and beyond.
