Aleijadinho
Aleijadinho, born Antônio Francisco Lisboa in 1730, was a prominent Brazilian sculptor and architect. He is best known for his work in the colonial city of Ouro Preto, where he created intricate sculptures and designed several churches. His style blends Baroque and Mannerist influences, showcasing detailed figures and dramatic expressions.
Despite suffering from a debilitating disease that disfigured his hands and feet, Aleijadinho continued to produce remarkable art. His most famous works include the twelve prophets at the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos and the facade of the Church of São Francisco de Assis. He is celebrated as one of Brazil's greatest artists.
