Anterior Compartment
The anterior compartment is a section of the limb, particularly in the arm and leg, that contains specific muscles and structures. In the arm, it primarily includes the biceps brachii, brachialis, and coracobrachialis muscles, which are responsible for flexing the elbow and shoulder. In the leg, the anterior compartment contains muscles like the quadriceps femoris, which extends the knee, and the tibialis anterior, which helps in dorsiflexion of the foot.
This compartment is bounded by fascia, which helps to separate it from other compartments. It is supplied by specific blood vessels and nerves, such as the musculocutaneous nerve in the arm and the femoral nerve in the leg. Understanding the anterior compartment is essential for diagnosing and treating injuries or conditions affecting these muscles.
