Quadriceps Femoris
The Quadriceps Femoris is a large muscle group located at the front of the thigh. It consists of four individual muscles: the Rectus Femoris, Vastus Lateralis, Vastus Medialis, and Vastus Intermedius. This group is primarily responsible for extending the knee joint, which is essential for activities like walking, running, and jumping.
In addition to knee extension, the Rectus Femoris also assists in flexing the hip joint. The quadriceps are crucial for maintaining stability and balance during movement. Strengthening these muscles can help prevent injuries and improve overall athletic performance.
