Amphitheatre of Pompeii
The Amphitheatre of Pompeii is one of the oldest surviving Roman amphitheatres, built around 80 BCE. It could hold approximately 20,000 spectators and was primarily used for gladiatorial games and other public events. The structure features a unique design with a semi-circular shape, allowing for excellent sightlines and acoustics.
Located in the ancient city of Pompeii, which was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE, the amphitheatre is remarkably well-preserved. Its construction showcases advanced engineering techniques of the time, including the use of concrete and arches, reflecting the grandeur of Roman architecture.
