Almoravid dynasty
The Almoravid dynasty was a Berber Muslim empire that emerged in the 11th century in North Africa. Founded by the Lamtuna tribe, it began as a religious movement aimed at reforming Islam and unifying the Berber tribes. The dynasty expanded its territory, conquering parts of Morocco, Spain, and West Africa, establishing a significant cultural and political influence in the region.
The Almoravids are known for their architectural achievements, including the construction of the Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech. Their rule lasted until the 12th century, when they were eventually overthrown by the Almohad dynasty, which sought to further reform and expand the Islamic faith.
