Albanian National Awakening
The Albanian National Awakening was a cultural and political movement in the late 19th century aimed at promoting Albanian identity and independence from Ottoman rule. It emphasized the importance of language, literature, and education, leading to the establishment of schools and the publication of newspapers in the Albanian language. Key figures included Naum Veqilharxhi and Ismail Qemali, who played significant roles in advocating for national rights.
This movement culminated in the declaration of independence from the Ottoman Empire on November 28, 1912. The efforts of the Albanian National Awakening laid the foundation for the modern Albanian state and fostered a sense of unity among Albanians, both in Albania and in diaspora communities.
