African Puff Adders
The African Puff Adder, scientifically known as Bitis arietans, is a venomous snake found across sub-Saharan Africa. It is recognized for its stout body, distinctive pattern of dark and light markings, and its ability to puff up when threatened. Puff Adders are primarily nocturnal and rely on camouflage to ambush their prey, which mainly consists of small mammals and birds.
These snakes are known for their potent venom, which can cause serious injury or death to humans if not treated promptly. Puff Adders are relatively slow-moving but can strike quickly when provoked. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem by controlling rodent populations.
