African Eye Worm
The African Eye Worm, scientifically known as Loa loa, is a parasitic worm that can infect humans, primarily in parts of West Africa. It is transmitted through the bite of infected mango flies, which deposit the larvae into the skin. The adult worms can migrate through the body, often causing visible swelling and discomfort.
One of the most notable symptoms of an African Eye Worm infection is the presence of the worm in the eye, which can lead to irritation and potential vision problems. Treatment typically involves medication to kill the worms, but prevention focuses on avoiding bites from the mango fly.
