Loa Loa
Loa Loa is a type of parasitic worm known as a filarial nematode. It is primarily found in parts of West Africa and Central Africa, where it is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected deer flies. The adult worms can live in the human body for several years, often residing in the subcutaneous tissues.
Infection with Loa Loa can lead to a condition called loiasis, which may cause symptoms such as swelling, pain, and itching. In some cases, the worms can migrate to the eye, potentially leading to vision problems. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests to detect the presence of the larvae.
