Afghan Legal System
The Afghan legal system is primarily based on a combination of Islamic law (Sharia) and civil law. It incorporates traditional customs and practices, known as Pashtunwali, which influence legal proceedings, especially in rural areas. The system is structured around various courts, including primary courts, appellate courts, and the Supreme Court, which oversees the judiciary.
In recent years, the legal system has faced challenges due to ongoing conflict and political instability. Efforts have been made to reform the system to ensure better access to justice and protect the rights of individuals, particularly women and minorities, within the framework of Afghan law.
