Adrenal Crisis
An adrenal crisis is a severe medical condition that occurs when the body does not produce enough cortisol, a vital hormone produced by the adrenal glands. This can happen in individuals with adrenal insufficiency, such as those with Addison's disease or those who have abruptly stopped taking corticosteroid medications. Symptoms may include extreme fatigue, low blood pressure, confusion, and severe abdominal pain.
If not treated promptly, an adrenal crisis can lead to shock and can be life-threatening. Treatment typically involves immediate administration of intravenous hydrocortisone to restore cortisol levels. Recognizing the signs early and seeking medical help is crucial for recovery.
