Absence Seizure
An absence seizure is a type of seizure that primarily affects children and is characterized by brief lapses in consciousness. During these episodes, a person may appear to be staring blankly into space and may not respond to external stimuli. These seizures typically last only a few seconds and can occur multiple times a day.
Absence seizures are often mistaken for daydreaming, as the individual may not show any physical signs of distress. They are classified under the broader category of epilepsy, a neurological disorder that causes recurrent seizures. Treatment options may include medication to help manage and reduce the frequency of these seizures.
