Abdul Qadeer Khan
Abdul Qadeer Khan was a Pakistani nuclear scientist and metallurgical engineer, born on April 1, 1936. He is best known for his role in developing Pakistan's nuclear weapons program, which made Pakistan the seventh country in the world to possess nuclear capabilities. Khan founded the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) in 1976, which became central to Pakistan's nuclear efforts.
In 2004, Khan was placed under house arrest after confessing to proliferating nuclear technology to countries like Iran, Libya, and North Korea. His actions sparked international controversy and raised concerns about nuclear proliferation. Khan passed away on October 10, 2021, leaving a complex legacy in the field of nuclear science.
