AA amyloidosis
AA amyloidosis is a condition where an abnormal protein called amyloid builds up in organs and tissues, disrupting their normal function. This protein is derived from serum amyloid A, which is produced in response to inflammation. Commonly affected areas include the kidneys, liver, and heart.
The condition often arises from chronic inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease. Symptoms may include fatigue, swelling, and organ dysfunction. Diagnosis typically involves a biopsy to detect amyloid deposits, and treatment focuses on managing the underlying inflammation and reducing amyloid production.
