Amyloidosis
Amyloidosis is a rare disease that occurs when abnormal proteins, called amyloids, build up in organs and tissues. This buildup can interfere with the normal functioning of the affected areas, leading to various health problems. Commonly affected organs include the heart, kidneys, and liver.
There are different types of amyloidosis, with the most common being AL amyloidosis, which is related to certain blood disorders, and AA amyloidosis, often associated with chronic inflammatory conditions. Diagnosis typically involves tests such as biopsies and imaging studies, while treatment may include medications, chemotherapy, or organ transplants, depending on the type and severity.
