1918 Disasters
The year 1918 was marked by significant disasters, most notably the Spanish Flu pandemic. This influenza outbreak infected about one-third of the world's population and resulted in an estimated 50 million deaths globally. The rapid spread was exacerbated by the movement of troops during World War I, making it one of the deadliest pandemics in history.
In addition to the pandemic, 1918 also saw devastating natural disasters, including severe floods in parts of Europe and India. These floods caused widespread destruction, displacing thousands and leading to food shortages. The combination of health crises and natural calamities made 1918 a particularly challenging year for many communities worldwide.
