1745 rising
The 1745 rising, also known as the Jacobite Rising of 1745, was an attempt by supporters of the House of Stuart to reclaim the British throne. Led by Charles Edward Stuart, known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie," the uprising aimed to restore his father, James Francis Edward Stuart, to power. The movement gained initial support in Scotland, where the Jacobites won several battles.
However, the rising ultimately failed after the decisive Battle of Culloden in April 1746. The defeat marked the end of the Jacobite cause, leading to harsh reprisals against the Highland clans and significant changes in Scottish society and culture.
