Jacobite Risings
The Jacobite Risings were a series of uprisings in Great Britain during the late 17th and 18th centuries. They aimed to restore the Stuart monarchy, specifically James II and his descendants, to the throne after they were ousted in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The most notable risings occurred in 1715 and 1745, with the latter led by Charles Edward Stuart, known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie."
The 1715 rising ended in defeat at the Battle of Sheriffmuir, while the 1745 rising culminated in the disastrous Battle of Culloden in 1746. These events significantly impacted Scottish history and culture, leading to the decline of the clan system and the suppression of Scottish traditions.
