12-step program
A 12-step program is a structured approach designed to help individuals overcome addiction or compulsive behaviors. It consists of a series of twelve steps that guide participants through self-reflection, accountability, and personal growth. These steps often emphasize the importance of admitting powerlessness over the addiction and seeking support from a higher power or community.
Originally developed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in the 1930s, the 12-step model has been adapted for various issues, including substance abuse, gambling, and overeating. Participants typically attend regular meetings, share experiences, and support one another in their recovery journey.
