林则徐
林则徐 (Lin Zexu) was a prominent Chinese scholar and official during the Qing Dynasty. He is best known for his strong opposition to the opium trade, which was causing widespread addiction and social issues in China. In 1839, he led a campaign to confiscate and destroy opium stocks in Canton, demonstrating his commitment to protecting Chinese society.
Lin Zexu's actions against opium brought him into conflict with British traders, leading to the First Opium War (1839-1842). Despite his efforts, the war resulted in significant territorial and economic concessions for China. Today, Lin Zexu is celebrated as a national hero for his integrity and dedication to public welfare.
