Ōbaku
Ōbaku is a school of Zen Buddhism that originated in China during the 17th century. It was founded by the monk Yinyuan Longqi, who brought the teachings to Japan. The Ōbaku school emphasizes meditation and the study of scriptures, blending elements of both Rinzai and Sōtō Zen traditions.
In Japan, Ōbaku became known for its unique practices and architectural style, particularly in its temples. The most famous temple associated with this school is Manpuku-ji, located in Uji, near Kyoto. Ōbaku also contributed to Japanese culture through its influence on tea ceremonies and the arts.
