Þorlákur Þórhallsson
Þorlákur Þórhallsson, also known as Saint Þorlákur, was an Icelandic bishop born around 1133. He became the Bishop of Skálholt in 1178 and is known for his efforts to strengthen the Christian faith in Iceland. His work included promoting education and establishing churches, which helped shape the religious landscape of the country.
He was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1198, making him the first saint from Iceland. His feast day is celebrated on December 23rd, and he is often associated with the Icelandic Christmas traditions. Þorlákur's legacy continues to influence Icelandic culture and religious practices today.
