Gentoo penguins are medium-sized penguins known for their distinctive white stripe across their heads and bright orange beaks. They typically weigh between 5.5 to 18.5 pounds and stand about 30 inches tall. These penguins are primarily found on sub-Antarctic islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, where they thrive in cold environments. Gentoo penguins are excellent swimmers, capable of reaching speeds up to 22 miles per hour in the water. They primarily feed on krill, fish, and other marine organisms. During the breeding season, they build nests from pebbles and lay two eggs, which both parents take turns incubating.
