taeniasis
Taeniasis is an infection caused by tapeworms, specifically the species Taenia saginata and Taenia solium. These parasites are typically acquired by consuming undercooked or raw meat from infected animals, such as cattle or pigs. Once ingested, the tapeworm attaches to the intestines and can grow several meters long.
Symptoms of taeniasis may include abdominal pain, nausea, and changes in appetite, but many infected individuals may remain asymptomatic. Diagnosis is usually made through stool tests that detect tapeworm eggs. Treatment typically involves medication that effectively eliminates the parasite from the body.
