tūī
The tūī is a native bird of New Zealand, known for its distinctive iridescent plumage, which can appear green, blue, and black. It has a unique white throat tuft and is recognized for its melodious song, which includes a variety of sounds and whistles. Tūī primarily feed on nectar from flowers, particularly from native plants like kānuka and mānuka, but they also eat fruits and insects.
Tūī are important pollinators in their ecosystem, helping to fertilize plants as they move from flower to flower. They are medium-sized birds, typically measuring about 25 to 30 centimeters in length. Tūī are social creatures, often seen in pairs or small groups, and are known for their playful behavior.
