squamous cell carcinomas
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a type of skin cancer that arises from squamous cells, which are flat cells found in the outer layer of the skin. It can also occur in other areas of the body, such as the lungs, mouth, and cervix. SCC is often caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds, leading to abnormal cell growth.
SCC typically appears as a firm, red bump, a scaly patch, or a sore that doesn't heal. While it can be aggressive, early detection and treatment usually result in a good prognosis. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, and topical medications.
