The mountain anoa, also known as the Bubalus quarlesi, is a small, endangered species of wild buffalo found only in the mountainous regions of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It typically inhabits dense forests and is known for its compact size, with adults weighing between 150 to 300 kilograms. The mountain anoa has a dark brown to black coat and short, curved horns. These animals are herbivorous, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and shrubs. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the mountain anoa is classified as endangered by the IUCN Red List. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining populations and habitats in the wild.
