megabats
Megabats, also known as flying foxes, are large fruit-eating bats belonging to the family Pteropodidae. They are primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Australia. Unlike smaller bats, megabats have excellent eyesight and rely less on echolocation, using their keen vision to locate ripe fruits and flowers.
These bats play a crucial role in their ecosystems as pollinators and seed dispersers. By feeding on fruits, they help in the growth of various plants and trees, contributing to forest regeneration. Megabats are social animals, often roosting in large colonies, which can number in the thousands.
