Fruit Bats
Fruit bats, also known as flying foxes, are large bats belonging to the family Pteropodidae. They primarily feed on fruits, nectar, and flowers, playing a crucial role in pollination and seed dispersal in their ecosystems. These bats have excellent eyesight and rely less on echolocation compared to other bat species.
Typically found in tropical and subtropical regions, fruit bats can have wingspans of up to 6 feet. They roost in large colonies, often in trees, and are social animals. Some species are known to migrate seasonally in search of food, making them important for maintaining the health of their habitats.
