lumbricals
The lumbricals are small, worm-like muscles located in the hand and foot. In the hand, there are four lumbricals that originate from the tendons of the flexor digitorum profundus muscle. They play a crucial role in finger movement, allowing for flexion at the metacarpophalangeal joints while extending the interphalangeal joints.
In the foot, there are also four lumbricals, which arise from the tendons of the flexor digitorum longus muscle. These muscles assist in the movement of the toes, helping with balance and stability during walking. Both sets of lumbricals are important for fine motor control and overall dexterity.
