A "henro" is a pilgrim who travels the Shikoku region of Japan to visit 88 Buddhist temples associated with the monk Kōbō Daishi. This pilgrimage, known as the Shikoku Pilgrimage, covers approximately 1,200 kilometers and can be completed on foot or by other means of transportation.
Henro often wear a distinctive outfit that includes a white robe, a conical hat, and a staff. The journey is not only a spiritual quest but also an opportunity for personal reflection and connection with nature and fellow pilgrims. Many henro seek to deepen their understanding of Buddhism and find peace along the way.
