dorsal roots
Dorsal roots are bundles of nerve fibers that emerge from the spinal cord and carry sensory information from the body to the brain. Each spinal nerve has a dorsal root, which contains the axons of sensory neurons. These neurons transmit signals related to touch, pain, temperature, and other sensations.
The dorsal roots enter the spinal cord at the back (dorsal side) and connect to the dorsal horn, a region of gray matter. This structure plays a crucial role in processing sensory information before it is relayed to higher brain centers for further interpretation and response.
